Butler introduces Blended Welding. Lecture online…hands-on in the shop.

Welding continues to be a high-demand career and Butler is providing an accelerated path to the workforce.

Butler’s new blended welding lets you complete your lecture time online and still get your hands dirty with hands-on training in the shop.

This innovative approach will allow individuals – both employed and those looking for employment – to prepare for their AWS certification or advance their career in a manner that works around the demands of their schedule.

Students will be able to enroll in the blended courses one or two at a time and complete the needed on-line instruction and receive practical hands on welding experience to become competent to pass the AWS welding exam for certification – one process at a time at their own learning speed until they feel competent to sit for the certification exam and/or enter the workforce.

Butler offers the new blended, along with its traditional welding courses, in E Dorado and at its Hillsboro Welding Center. The labs in Hillsboro will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and the labs in El Dorado will be from 5 to 10 p.m.

In addition, employers can send workers to learn specific processes to stay competitive in the workplace. All students will take the AWS SENSE certification exams and upon completion of the second class in a process will take the AWS specific process certification exam which is a “hands on” exam. Processes in which students may receive certification are: Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW),Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW). All welding courses at Butler Community College are taught by certified AWS instructors.

Enrollment for the fall blended welding courses is now taking place. To learn more about Butler’s Welding Program, call 316-322-3163 or 316-218-6259.

I just finished with my welding classes last spring (2011) and i really liked doing all the paperwork in class. I got more attention from the instructor, and all my answers were answered on the spot. I don’t think these online classes would have worked for me specially in metallurgy, where none of the stuff made sense. Maybe these classes will work for others. Good luck to those of you who will take theses classes.
