Grizzly Diamond Ladies Chase Softball World Series Title

UPDATE: Grizzlies drop second game to Darton College, 7-3. The loss eliminates them from the national championship tournament. What a powerful season for the Grizzly diamond ladies, finishing the season 45-10 and a trip to the World Series! Great run, Grizzly Softball; you showed all how powerful it is to be a Grizzly.

UPDATE: Grizzlies waiting out a rain delay in the bottom of the 2nd inning in Utah. Play has been scheduled to resume at 8:45 p.m. Grizz will need to pick it up…trail 0-1.

UPDATE: Butler drops first game in the World Series tourney to Tallahassee in extra innings, 3-2. Will play Darton (Ga.) at 5:30 p.m. (central time) and must win to keep from being eliminated. Go Grizz!

The Butler softball team is making a run for the softball championship as they play in the NJCAA Division I World Series for the third time in the past five years. Butler brings their 45-8 record as the 12 seed and first battle the five seed Eagles of Tallahassee Community College (37-20).

The Division 1 softball national championship is May 19-21 in St. George, Utah and Butler starts play at 11 a.m. CT/10 a.m. MT Thursday the 19th.

Win or lose, Butler will play a second game on Thursday against either Miami Dade College or Darton (Ga.) College.

The Lady Grizz are batting .383 as a team and boast 11 players with a batting average of .350 or better. Butler is led by freshman and Team USA Women’s Baseball player, shortstop Clarisa Navarro, the NJCAA Region 6 Player and Freshman of the Year. The Arkansas signee is batting .429 with ten home runs and 56 RBI. Simone Patterson leads the team with 15 home runs and 66 RBI. Patterson, along with Leah Becker, have signed with Southeast Missouri State. Starting pitcher Courtney Kasson has signed with Eastern Illinois.

Coach Chance expects as many as eight Grizzlies to sign Division I letters of intent following the season.
